Being smart with Craigslist

I’m sure all of us have stumbled upon our local Craigslist and tried to scope something out or sell something online.  I’ve tried to sell stuff myself but got really tired of the spammers that spoofed that they were actually interested in what i was selling and then replied back with their request for a money order or your citizen card! I had others that would say would meet me and then never show up.  Some were serious and i did sell pc related stuff. If a price is dirt cheap, chances are high to sell it quickly. But if you wanna bargain – don’t price too high, its like a garage sale where  people will offer the lowest bid possible.

As for buying, again depends on what you’re looking for. When purchasing your item, go with a friend or at meet the seller outside in an open area. Dont send a cheque or cash to anyone through the mail. You laugh, but you’ll be surprised how many people do that in their own cities because they can’t meet them or don’t have transport. You expect them to ship your item and you never receive what you buy.  Ebay has registered power sellers, so buying an item on their site secures you more that you will receive your item.  Craigslist has users that don’t need their credit card to sign up. So its open to anyone.

Beware and be smart on how you communicate with your seller or your buyer. Judge well, but make sure you both exchange cell numbers and identify a mutual common area to meet. Cash only. If you choose PayPal or sites like it, make sure payment is exchanged once the transaction is completed.
