New internet addiction
Have you heard about Twitter? Its making its rounds on television shows across the US, and many celebrities have been “tweeting” to promote their projects and upcoming events. Its basically a networking site that posts your current status. You can update it as much as you like and it will blast the status to all your followers. Facebook has the same function but Twitter is simply used for that. It also gives you a kinda feel that you’re blogging your thoughts, as followers can reply to your status. Its is the current fad for internet users and you can conveniently add Twitter to your phone as well to keep up to date with your tweets!
Fairly addictive at the beginning, but like Facebook it loses its flare after a while. To try it click here to visit the site - Twitter

Update your Adobe software
According to some virus information centers such as Trend Micro and Symantec, there is a vulnerabilty in some versions of Adobe acrobat and adobe reader. The related malware that is causing the software to crash is called TROJ_PIDIEF.IN. According to Trend Micro, it exploits a vulnerability in a non-JavaScript function call.
Currenty, no patch exists for this vulnerability. One is expected to be released by March 11, 2009. Patches for earlier versions will then follow. For the time being, if you encounter this problem with your Adobe software; here is a workaround posted from Adobe.
Having some fun with your pictures

Mac vs Microsoft – stumbles & jumps of 2008
Apple’s year wasn’t a great one. Research from NPD Group this week shows that November retail sales for Macs fell 1 percent year over year while Windows PC sales grew 7 percent. To jump start 2009, they are rumored to release at their upcoming MacWorld trade show, a more versatile mac mini desktop computer. Its expected to include Nvidia chipsets along with the ability to upgrade your memory to 4gb. Also Apple’s IWork suite is rumored to be going web-based and will be re-introduced early this year. Sales on the macbooks declined this year and more attention was paid to Steve Job’s failing health than their laptops. Although their commercials depicting Mac vs PC still did very well despite poor sales. Way better than the commercials Microsoft attempted with Jerry Seinfeld. They were too late in replying to Mac’s advertising, and most of those commercials made little sense.
Financial analysts are predicting that Microsoft will announce negative earnings due to the crumble of the world market this year. Yet Windows is still used on 90 percent of computers and Internet Explorer on 70 percent. Microsoft’s Vista nightmare continued with many users wanting to revert back to XP. Microsoft didn’t do enough adverstising and convincing for users to move to Vista. I think their failed bid for Yahoo also was a stumble. They were critisized for the way it was handled along with the bad publicity and wasted money. Late in the 2008, they were forced to release an emergency update to patch a major flaw in Internet explorer 7. see: http://chekmytektips.wordpress.com/2008/12/18/download-security-patch-for-internet-explorer-7/
The pressure is on Microsoft in 2009 to compete more effectively against Apple, Google and Mozilla with the expected releases of Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8. Apple’s mac mini is being highly praised and should be able to compete with other smaller desktops on the market. Hopefully their sales can also rebound despite poor economy predictions.
